This month’s build update, our home is still under wraps but starting to emerge

Our architect Sam reports from Teddington, on tiles, bricks and scaffolding.

“This month has been all about construction, the roof is being tiled now, insulation is going in, and we’re planning for the installation of the solar panels which will enable very low power costs in the future.

Stable designs and frontages have been agreed and ordered from our specialist supplier. I managed to source some old pine boards which can be used as kickboards and painted to match. Reclaiming old materials where we can makes so much sense and saves on the cost of materials.

And the personalised engraved bricks for our Wall of Bricks are due to arrive by the end of January, which is so exciting! (See the prototype in the photos.)

The build is still in its unglamorous stage, but the scaffolding is due to come down in early February. For a while it will be replaced by pavement hoarding protecting both the site and passers by, but inside it all our gorgeous new building is starting to emerge.”
