This is a picture is James's Farm, one of the last farms in Teddington. The farm was one of the largest in Teddington and was located close to the stables probably close to where Tesco's car park is now.
Park Lane Stables is a small riding school based in the heart of Teddington.
We're pretty unique as we are located on a residential street very close to Bushy Park - we're one of the only truly urban riding schools in London.
The yard has a great history, dating back to 1830 when it was the home of Teddington Fire Station. The fire trucks at that time were of course horse-drawn and the fire truck itself used to sit outside, where the large double doors to the yard are now. Much of the surrounding land was either owned by the stables or farm land. The residential flats just across from the yard were once open pastures where the horses would graze and farmers worked the land on their small holdings, which were all around where Tesco is now situated.
Of course Teddington has change quite a bit since those days but we are very proud that that stables are still here and it enables Teddington retained a little bit of its rural history.
Today Park Lane Stables is run by Natalie O'Rourke and her dedicated team of BHS instructors and horse enthusiast helpers! Find out more about the team.
